Andreas Seppi won the toss and chose to receive serve. Seppi got the break of serve in the 5th game of the opening set, and consolidated the break to lead 4-2. Klizan struggled on serve, only for his problems to continue. He lost the first set 2-6.
Klizan was broken in the opening game of the second set but would retrieve the break of serve immediately in the second game. He began approaching the net to make a few vollies - those moves forward appeared to revive his game at that stage of the match. Klizan, with momentum on his side, got another break of serve in Seppi's second game of the set. Klizan improved on serve and won the second set 6-2.
Klizan cruised to lead 3-0 in the third decisive set. Klizan served for the match at 5-3, and in a game inclusive of the longest rally of the match yet (22 shots), Klizan surrendered the break of serve to the Italian by serving a double fault at 30-40. Seppi won the third set tie break 7-6, and in turn the match 6-2 2-6 7-6.
