Liverpool’s need for another forward to assist Luis Suarez in the task of
scoring goals has been discussed to death in recent weeks. A wide array of names
stretching from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to Burnley’s Charlie Austin have been
mentioned in relation to the job. One name that has emerged into the crowd of
rumours as a genuine surprise is Giuseppe Rossi. The Italian-American striker
hasn’t played since 2011 and is still nursing a cruciate ligament injury that
will rule him out until the new year. Although this will mean Rossi can’t come
into the Liverpool side immediately, it will mean that Rodgers will be able to
get the striker for a cut price. And for a striker that has scored 54 goals in
136 games for Villareal, and has represented Italy 27 times, a deal for Rossi on
the cheap could emerge as the bargain of the year.
