Monosaccharides【单糖】

1、The simplest forms of carbohydrates.
2、They taste sweet and are soluble in water.
3、All are reducing sugars.
4、They form a brick-red precipitate in Benedict's test.

Disaccharides【双糖】
如：maltose 麦芽糖
lactose 乳糖
sucrose 蔗糖（not reducing sugar）
1、Are formed when two monosaccharides combine,
in the presence of an enzyme.
This process is called condensation.
2、Disaccharides can be broken down into monosaccharides
when water and a different enzyme are present.
This reaction is called hydrolysis.
3、Also taste sweet and are soluble in water.
4、Also reducing sugar except sucrose.
