I was sitting at home watching Liverpool v Man United with interest last weekend, and as you can imagine like every other Chelsea fan, I was disappointed when John O'Shea got that injury-time winner for United.
Man United have had some luck and the rub of the green lately, but I'm sure it will turn in our favour soon. That's not to say that we begrudge them anything. They deserve to be top of the league and are having an excellent season. But we are due some good fortune and as I'm sure they are aware, there is plenty of football left to play this season. United are in a strong position but we feel we can catch them.
This week sees us tackle Spurs in the FA Cup quarter-final and that should be a cracking London derby. They are playing very well right now and scoring lots of goals so it promises to be a good game. Having home advantage is good news for us though, and we believe that we are more than capable of winning, and reaching the semi-finals.
We've not won the FA Cup yet under Jose Mourinho so I'd say we have got to be looking at this competition as a serious target this season. We've been fortunate getting home draws against lower league sides to help get us this far but I am confident we can now go all the way to Wembley, which would be fantastic. It would be brilliant to win this year's FA Cup.
It's funny because unlike some other clubs we haven't rested many players during this season's FA Cup. Because we've had so many injuries we haven't been able to. Our squad is actually quite small when you look at the number of people who've been missing injured, so certain players have been forced to play.
That said, a couple of our younger players have come in for the odd appearance and performed well on the big stage this season. I think Chelsea's youth policy is beginning to bear some fruit and that's got to be positive news for the club. When I compare the youngsters emerging now to the ones who were around when I first joined the Blues, it's clear that the standard is much, much higher now. There is some serious young talent at the club at the moment.
Right now most of our most promising young players are 16, 17 and 18, so they haven't had many chances yet. I think you would have to be truly special to get into the current Chelsea team at that age. But seeing lads like Scott Sinclair, Jimmy Smith, Michael Woods and Jack Cork coming through is superb. They train with us quite a bit when they aren't on loan ?and they have really high levels of ability. The future is looking bright and I hope these lads get more chances because I love seeing young kids making it in the first team.
As for me, I'm still getting on fine with my recovery. As I've said before I prefer not to set myself a specific target publicly, but I do intend on being back playing before the end of the season. It has a slow process but if all goes to plan, I hope to start running again at some point this week.
