Czech Republic – his home away from home
For American shooter Matt Emmons the final shot in Olympic rifle events has now become legendary and ill fated. In the three previous Olympics his final shot has knocked him off the podium. This time it was at least sufficient for a bronze medal. And why should he be of interest to Czech fans? Not only is this good humoured competitor husband of Czech shooter Kateřina Emmons, but fans at the Czech House appreciated the fact that he came here to celebrate his bronze. „In our camp we don’t have opportunities for such celebrations, so I am very happy that I can come here; it is fantastic here. I can’t begin to say how much I appreciate your support,“ said Matt Emmons in thanks.
At that moment many of the moved audience had to hold back tears, among them Kateřina Emmons, who gave the surprised Matt an unexpected present – a silver pen from the official Olympic collection. „I don’t know anyone who three times reached the absolute bottom and three times managed to pick themselves up. Matt is just a great fighter!“ she Kateřina in tribute to her husband. The present was not the end; Matt Emmons also earned a special glass vase intended for Czech medallists. „The Czech Republic is my second home and I now really feel like I am among my own,“ added an emotional Matt, who with his wife is looking forward to going home to their young daughter Julie who they will see „ve Č-T-VR-TEK“ (on Thursday) as a smiling Matt said in broken Czech. More photos of Kateřina and Matt Emmons in the Gallery as well as the photos of John Regis.
