The first crude steam engine was patented by Thomas Savery, who was an
English military engineer and inventor, in 1698. The engine was based on Denis
Papin’s digester and pressure cooker of 1679. Thomas took the solutions of the
problem in the machine and made it successful. In 1712, Mr. Newcomen and Capt.
Savery built an atmospheric steam engine which is an improvement over Thomas
Savery patented in 1698. This engine was deemed inefficient but the best steam
engine in its time until 1769. Watt and his separate condenser engine became
the dominant design for all modern steam engines, they helped bring about the Industrial
Revolution.
