注３："waltzing Matilda"不可照自面翻成和玛蒂妲跳华尔滋喔(笑)。
　　　这个用语来自澳洲的「非官方」国歌，意指把全部家当都背
　　　在身上四处流浪找工作。"Matilda"一词的来源有很多的揣
　　　测，其中一说就是那些流浪汉(swagman)们通常都是将自己
　　　的铺盖连同所有的家当全部卷在一起变成一个行囊背著浪迹
　　　天涯。这种四处漂泊的男人鲜有女人长伴左右，故流浪汉们
　　　便将唯一与他们朝夕相处的家当/行囊/铺盖戏谑地取了个女
　　　人的名字Matilda(玛蒂妲)，而"waltzing Matilda"渐渐的
　　　就演变成现在背著行囊去流浪的引申义了。不过，在这首歌
　　　中我翻成「卷起铺盖去流浪」，一来是因为"waltzing Maltida"
　　　本来的原意就有流浪汉卷起swag(在此作铺盖解)流浪的意思，
　　　二来是因为仅仅翻成不一定代表全部身家财产的「行囊」可
　　　能还不能完全表达出歌曲主人公完全一无所有的处境。


注４：关於歌曲中第一人称主人公的背景，我们所知甚少，不过经
　　　由这些字里行间的资讯，一般普遍认为他是个曾经经历WAR
　　　摧残的老兵，对自己以保家卫国之名犯下的沙人之罪久久不
　　　能释怀，於是渐渐地丧失了对人、瑟会和未来的杏仰，最后
　　　沉沦於酒精与罪恶感之中，只能独自背负著战争所带来的破
　　　灭、创伤和愧疚浪迹天涯。个人认为这种状态正是在心理学
　　　中是非常典型的创伤后压力症候群(PTSD)，有兴趣的朋友可
　　　以参照喂鸡百科上的创伤后心理压力紧张症候群条目。


注５：这句里的"Stacys"是啥也是个大哉问。个人看了一大堆讨论
　　　串之后，得到的结论就是Stacys指的是曾经在七零年代非常
　　　夯的高级名鞋品牌，穿上它之后就有著一种「大家看我穿这
　　　麼好的鞋就该知道我有多少斤两，有长眼的就别随便来惹我！」
　　　的意味在。
注６：Old Bushmills是旧时非常知名的爱尔兰威士忌品牌。
注７：Saint Christopher是旅者和水手的守护圣灵。一般常被做成护身符或十字架戴在旅者和水手的身上，在此歌者说他丢了护身符，有许多诠释的角度，其中常见的两种一是说他终於在「吻了她(某个不知名女人)」之后得到了救赎和归属，故不再需要配戴护身符；另一个说法则是他完全丧失了信仰和求生的意志，於是连保佑旅者的护身符都一并扔掉了。至於本句后段被主人公亲吻的「她」，有人说是某个女人，也有人说「她」指的就是主人公的行囊，也就是玛蒂妲——歌曲主人公必须永远背负著的罪恶感和残破不堪的心灵。由於Tom
Waits本人对此完全没有提出解释，大家就自由心证吧。
注８：在此歌中主人公明白指出「玛蒂妲就是被告」，因此我也在网路上看到很多网友直接将玛蒂妲翻成一个实际存在的女人，甚至还有人将这段歌词理解成一个叫玛蒂妲的女人杀死一百人之后嫁祸给主人公云云。不过，有鉴於上面注3的解释，Matilda在此应该不是指一个实际存在的女人吧(笑)。相对的，我情愿循著自己的诠释角度，将主人公背著的「玛蒂妲」解释成主人公在战场杀敌后产生的沉重罪恶感，所以说他才会说他痛苦背负著的、另称为玛蒂妲的行囊就是犯罪的被告，而且这个被告/这份罪恶感不论他走到哪里都不会放过他，不让他饱受摧残的心灵有任何喘息的空间。
注９：这一段堪称这首歌中最经典、最杰出的两句歌词，虽然字不多、话也不长，却完完全全将歌曲主人公的心境刻画得淋漓尽致。据说曾有乐评对这段歌词连给了三四个"brilliant"的赞叹呢。
有个日剧叫《不毛地带》，这是这部剧的主题曲。这剧真心很好看虽然是我讨厌的日剧。
这首歌嘛。。。我觉得是写军人的内疚和自我放纵乱七八糟这类事，也许不是这么理解的。。

其实BLUR的OUT OF TIME,SWEET SONG这两首我觉得很好，DOVES的THERE GOES THE FEAR,POUDING的词也很好，RH佳作更多，比如偏执机器人，另外比如kaiserchiefs这种放荡不羁的歌词，比如NEVER MISS A BEAT,The Angry Mob也不错

其实歌词有了故事性，再和大众引起共鸣，都NB
