Updated Nikon D800 specs By [NR] ADMIN | Published: DECEMBER 16, 2011

I am now 99% confident that the remaining unconfirmed specs from this Nikon D800 post and the D800 pictures are real. Here is the updated list:
36 MP sensor (7360x4912)
100% viewfinder coverage
Improved AF with face recognition – the D800 will still have 51 points AF point
CF+SD memory card slots
USB 3.0
ISO range: 100 – 6400, ISO LO @ 50 and ISO HI-2 @ 25600
The screen will be larger than 3 inches (probably 3.2 in.)
The D800 will not have built-in GPS
Expeed 3 processor
There will be two different D800 versions/models, one with the antialiasing filter removed
4 fps continuous shooting, about 6 fps in DX mode with optional battery pack
Video modes: 1080p/30/25/24 and 720p/60/30/25/24
Headphone jack, can input from an external device such as a PCM sound recorder
86k pixels RGB sensor
200,000 shutter cycles
Uncompressed HDMI video out (just like the Nikon D4) Still no idea about the exact D800 announcement date.

Cropped Nikon D800 samples at high ISO By [NR] ADMIN | Published: DECEMBER 17, 2011

I have mentioned before that I have several samples taken with the upcomingNikon D800 camera. The TIFF files produced by the Nikon D800 are around 103 MB:

Unfortunately I cannot publish the entire images online but I can show you few JPG crops taken at different ISO settings. It's not much, but at least you can get some idea about the ISO performance. I already mentioned that with the D4 and D800 Nikon will make a clear separation in the target audience for those cameras. With its high resolution, the D800 will be for the landscape/studio photographers, where the D4 will have the speed and low light performance for photo journalists/sports shooters. This is a clear differentiation from the previous D3/D700 models that shared the same sensor/technology.
Here are five 100% crops taken at ISO 500, 1400, 3200, 6400 and Hi-1 (I do not have samples taken at other ISO settings). Keep in mind that those were probably taken with a pre-production D800 camera:

      Nikon D800 100% jpg crop @ ISO 500
      Nikon D800 100% jpg crop @ ISO 1400
      Nikon D800 100% jpg crop @ ISO 3200
      Nikon D800 100% jpg crop @ ISO 6400
      Nikon D800 jpg 100% crop @ ISO Hi-1 (12,800)

Interview with Nikon about their upcoming cameras By [NR] ADMIN | Published: DECEMBER 18, 2011

The Japanese Digital Camera Magazine did a series of interviews with leading camera manufacturers about their future products (see a recap of the interviews with Pentax and Olympus executives). The magazine will be published on December 19th, 2011 in Japan. A 12 pages preview of the upcoming issue can be downloaded here (the Nikon interview is on page 7). Here is a quick recap (thanks Matthew) of the Nikon section:
D700 successor to have high pixel count, high resolution
D3 successor to become a highly sensitive, high speed model
              Keyword (explanation/ editing dept)
D3, D700 successors. The two models that have been in production for several years are expected to have their successors announced early in the new year. I would say it will be aimed at CP Plus. Considering the trend towards high pixel count, it is thought that both models will have a considerably higher pixel count than the current approx 12MP.
Large improvements toward “High Sensitivity” “High Resolution” “High Speed”
These are the keywords from Mr. Tanaka’s question on how future cameras will progress. Mr. Sasagaki predicts DSLR cameras above entry level will become “pointed cameras” with very advanced functionality. It does seem that these are strongly desired in various media.
The current year at Nikon as seen by Kimio Tanaka
2011 was a tough year for Nikon. Sendai Nikon in Natori, Miyagi Prefecture, got a beating, and as soon as it started to recover, then came the Thai flood disaster. The main factory went into complete shutdown. Because of this, the announcement of what was rumored to be “something big” which was expected in Autumn was “pushed back” to 2012. As the announcement schedule became considerably twisted, in 2012 the strain will likely lead to a new product rush hour. The big news for 2011 would have to be the Nikon 1. For Nikon this is the first camera system based on a new mount since the Nikon F 50 years ago.
For all Japanese speaking readers: if you see any other interesting info in the interview, please add them to the comment section and I will update the post. Thanks!

Nikon D800 shows us its dark left side By [NR] ADMIN | Published: DECEMBER 21, 2011

This Nikon D800 image was sent to me anonymously without any further explanations. Some of the camera design details are consistent with the previous D800 images but I have no idea if this is real or fake. For comparison, here is a side image of the Nikon D700:

What do you guys think - real or fake?
