About Taiwan's Issue -- A letter to our Headmaster
Dear Dr.Headmaster,
How's everything going?
After thinking quite a long time, I decided to write this letter to you. My purpose here is to seriously complain about my L/S teacher Baldman Lee, and seek for help. So could you please spend some time to read my letter meticulously even though it is a litter longer? We will be really appreciative if you could help us.
My name is Hang Chen, an international student from China, currently studying in the University of Delaware and its English Language Institution. I'm now a student of Baldman Lee's, attending his Listening/Speaking English for Academic Purpose (EAP) Level V/D class.
The main reason that I denounce this teacher is that recently I have found out he has some prejudice against Chinese people. In his class, he used inappropriate language to assault Chinese students more than once, such as"You Chinese guys are crazy, you eat anything with legs except table." and "You guys always like to cheat while writing a research paper. Just copy the content from the Internet." The one thing that really made me determine to complain about this teacher happened like this: Last last Friday, when I was in Baldman Lee's class, he asked all the students to show evidence convincing him that we were in the International Festival on Thursday night in Trabant University Center, because he gave this task to all the students in this class on Thursday and he promised that if everyone went there, there would be an extra credits adding to every student, so he just wanted to make sure by that time. I took many pictures by using my iPhone in that party as my evidence. While I was showing the photos to him, he found that in my phone there was a flag of "Republic of China" raised by the students from Taiwan and then he immediately lifted my phone very high and show this picture to all the students in class and cynically asked me(like shouting with smiling)"What country is that?". I said"No, that is not a country, Don't talk that. It's a political issue." We mainland Chinese students, however, all understand this issue and never discuss this with the students from China Taiwan here in the USA in case we have different opinions and avoid hurting each other's feeling, also do the Taiwanese students. Some other mainland Chinese students also supported me by voice followed my voice. Then he said" It's a country ! We don't have table for province here. Stephanie, what country is that?" he asked Stephanie on purpose. Stephanie is one of my best friends, and she was born in Taiwan but now she obtained a mainland Chinese passport due to her family's reason. Stephanie was a little scared by that time, and she just answered "Taiwan" in a very low voice subconsciously. Then Baldman Lee even reach one for a yard after taking an inch, he just sat there watching us quarreling with each other while smiling. Obviously, he was sowing dissension, damaging the good relationship between mainland Chinese and Taiwanese students and he thought that was an amusement to him, which was obviously not proper to take place in a class.
