标题：Three Kingdoms - episode 1. The ruthless and the scheming
三国 第一集：冷酷与诡诈
It's official. I am in love with Three Kingdoms after the first episode.
正式公布，我看完《三国》的第一集后就爱上了这套剧。
But first a disclaimer - as far as it comes to that period of Chinese history, my knowledge is pretty much zero. And my knowledge of the Romance of Three Kingdoms is only marginally less meager - all I know I learned from Red Cliff I which I do not remember well. I did not even read the wiki article on the book because I do not want to be spoiled (yes, I realize it's like not wanting to be spoiled for The Song of Roland or Morte d'Arthur but there we are). So the below are thoughts of someone who only has one ep under her belt and almost no background knowledge.

Ep 1 revolves largely around Cao Cao's aborted attempt to assassinate Dong Zhuo, who is the de facto ruler of the Han Empire. Cao Cao, a cavalry general, became very close to Dong Zhuo but decides to kill him, whether out of ambition,
thirst for glory, or some mix of the two. However, the attempt fails and the enraged Dong Zhuo sends his adopted son, warlord Lu Bu, to hunt Cao Cao down like a dog while taking a side trip to eradicate his household (they really weren't kidding about the whole "if you go against the government, they will kill everyone related to you, down to the meanest slave." Let's hope Cao Cao was single and childless and wasn't too fond of any of his retainers). And thus the story is set in motion...
第一集主要环绕着曹操刺杀汉朝实际上的君主董卓，而且失败的经过。骁骑将军曹操当了董卓的心腹，可是决定行刺他。这可能是出于野心或者建功的志愿，或者两者都是。不过，行刺失败了。愤怒的董卓派了他的义子吕布去追杀曹操，并且顺道去灭了他的一家（他们不是开玩笑的。你跟朝廷作对，他们就会杀死所有跟你有关的人，包括你最卑贱的奴仆。且希望曹操还没有结婚生子，对家里仆人也不是十分喜欢吧）。故事就是这样开始了……

Cao Cao. He's currently my favorite character, being clever, unscrupulous and larger than life. He's almost irresistibly magnetic. If I traveled back in time, he's the one I'd pick to be concubine n. 75 to. I second mookiehyun on the whole ahjusshi crush thing.
曹操。他是我现在最喜欢的人物，因为他聪明、做事不择手段、有传奇色彩。他有一种几乎无可抗拒的魅力。如果我穿越了到古代，我会选择当他的第75房小妾。我支持[另一名网友]的大叔控。

On to the more cheery topic of the awesomeness of Diaochan. She finds her
father with a dagger, planning to cut his own throat because he knows
he's suspected in Cao Cao's assassination attempt.
说点关于貂蝉怎么V5的，调剂一下吧。她看到她的义父拿着一把刀准备抹脖子，因为他知道了他被怀疑跟曹操行刺事件有关。
He explains:

Brainy and cool-headed Diaochan to the rescue!
幸好有聪明冷静的貂蝉!

And then Lu Bu arrives at the house with a whole troop of soldiers.
然后吕布就带着一大队人马到他们家来了。
God, she's so awesome under pressure!
神啊，她这个遇事不惊太给力了
“义父，你不能犹豫……”
So the Minister gathers himself and comes out.
那，司徒大人就冷静下来出去了。
Good news. He's only here to search the house to see if Cao Cao is hiding here (yeah, it means Warlord suspects him but has no certainty yet, that's something).
好消息。他只是来搜房子，看看曹操是否在这藏着。（对，这意味着军阀先生虽然怀疑他，可是还没有确认是他。这算是个好兆头。）
So they are searching the house and he sees a movement out of the corner
of his eye. It's Diaochan in her quarters but of course he has no idea.
那他们就搜房子了。他瞥见了一丝动静。那是貂蝉在屋内，不过他自然不会知道。
And then he sees her.
然后他就看到她了。

got myself a ship. Swooooon. I kinda love how they are both frozen but
while she's affected, he's completely spell-bound. I approve of Psycho
Legolas experiencing love at first sight.
神啊。我都不能呼吸了。嗷嗷嗷嗷嗷嗷。我想我找到我心仪的官配了。高兴得晕头转向啊。我挺喜欢这一幕：他俩都是愣着——她是假装的，而他确实是着迷了。我完全支持让疯狂莱戈拉斯尝试一见钟情的滋味。
Oh please please let them be an OTP. Because that is the most entertaining first meeting ever "so yeah, I was there to search her father's house for traitors and if we found them, she'd have gotten executed along with everyone but luckily that didn't happen and instead we hooked up." Or something. You just know he is dying to ask her out for the ancient Chinese equivalent of a coffee date (A public hanging? A sword-fighting
exhibition?).
拜托拜托拜托他们一定要是官配啊！这是历史上最有意思的一次邂逅啊！“那啥，我本来到她老爸家是要找叛贼的。如果找到了，她肯定会跟别人一起给砍掉。幸好没有发生，我们就开始约会了。”你一看就知道他有多渴望能邀她去古代中国式的约会 （一起去看行刑？看比武？）。
He puts his sword back in its scabbard and I refuse the urge to make the obvious jokes.
他把剑插回剑鞘。我不会指出这可能暗示什么。
This is even more entertaining if you upend "wanna go out with me?" to the end of each of his sentences.
要更欢乐的话，可以在他说的每一句话后面加一句“愿意和我交往吗？”。
“在下吕布。”
“奉董相国令，前来搜捕逆贼曹操。”
I love how smart she is. Of course everything she says is true. There is just more to it.
我太喜欢她的聪明了。当然她每一句话都是实话，只是事情不止这样而已。

He sees what he assumes (due to design and pride of place), Minister's
ancestral dagger, one they thought Cao Cao was trying to use in the
assassination and why they thought the Minister was involved. If the
dagger is still in Minister's house, as opposed in warlord's possession
post-assassination attempt, that means he's not involved (or so they
think. This is a much fancier replica - everybody believes this is the
original when it isn't).

标题："I'd rather betray the world than for the world to betray me"
“宁肯我负天下人 ，休教天下人负我。”
This is me upon seeing what ruthlessness Cao Cao is capable of without a second thought in ep 3:
我看到曹操在第三集中自然流露出来的冷酷时，我脸上的表情就是这样的：
I am madly, obsessively in love with Cao Cao. Oh, don't get me wrong, the man is a monster. But he is a smart, capable, somehow utterly magnetic monster. And he says things which somehow make you see the reasoning of his actions however horrific, and I find myself almost on his side and horrified for it.
我疯狂地、着魔地爱上了曹操。噢，不要误解。他是个恶魔。但是他是个聪明、能干、魅力四射的恶魔。他总是会说一些话，令你不可思议地明白他极可怕的行为背后的逻辑。我发觉我自己几乎要支持他的做法了。这令我很恐惧。
“事已至此，悲叹何用”
This is after all, a man who slaughtered his uncle's family on mistaken assumption and when he learned of his mistake didn't stop but instead killed his uncle too so he wouldn't go to the authorities.
毕竟他是个能做出这样的事情的人：他因错误的假设，屠杀了他伯父一家人。发现自己错了之后，他非但没有停手，而且把伯父也都杀了，免得他去报官。
And after it all, he came back to the corse-filled house to stay for the rainy night and eat the dead family's food. He's terrifying. I think if it comes to war between him and the old warlord running Han, providing Cao Cao has enough soldiers, it's no-contest. He's incredibly smart and he has no weakness - whether moral, emotional, or otherwise (unlike e.g. old warlord who was susceptible to flattery and not the best judge of character).
这些都发生之后，他回到那个铺满死尸的房子去避雨，去吃死者的食物。他太恐怖了。如果是要跟那个控制着汉朝的那个老军阀打仗的话，曹操一旦有了足够的兵力，这仗就不用打了。他无比的聪明，而且没有缺点——不论人格上、感情上、或是其他地方的。（不像那个易受谄媚又知人不明的老军阀。）
But despite it all, I can't help but love him and root for him. Somehow he still comes across as magnetic and so very human. It's insane. Perhaps it's the fact that he doesn't lie to himself about the kind of person he is and never covers up his inner truth.
尽管如此，我都不可自拔地爱他、支持他。他不知怎的还是十分有魅力、十分有人性。真的太不可思议了。这可能是因为他从不向自己隐瞒自己真实的个性的缘故吧。
“自古以来就是大奸似忠，大伪似真”
Btw, I have no idea who the actor is but he is amazing. He owns the drama. I
want to see everything he's ever been in, except for the whole lack-of-subtitles issue.
另外，我不知道这个演员是谁，不过他棒极了。整个剧中数他就牛B。我要看他所有拍过的戏！不过没有字幕是个问题。
