Nelly Furtado has a new song called Mystery. Details are scarce, but the Hollywood Reporter reports that the Canuck singer could have a new album out this year.
It’s been two years since Nelly Furtado released an original album (and five since she put out an LP featuring English-language material), though reports out of The Hollywood Reporter last fall suggested the Toronto-by-way-of-Victoria pop star has a new disc, Lifestyle, due to surface sometime this year.
Details have been scarce — nearly as scarce as Furtado herself, who reportedly hadn’t done a show in seven months before playing a festival in Lisbon, Portugal. in early July.
So it’s appropriate that the new song Furtado previewed for that festival crowd is reportedly called Mystery.
Rap-Up found some fan footage of Furtado running through a snippet of Mystery — a song that, when performed live, anyway, sounds like something of a lovelorn ballad. (“Show the mystery/ Why can’t you just be real with me,” Furtado warbles on the chorus.) In the clip, Furtado uses the new song to lead into performance of her 2006 hit, Promiscuous (curiously reworked as Mysterious for the show) — so maybe she hasn’t shed the bar-star image of the mega-selling Loose all these years later?
