倒装句
倒装语序inverted order:谓语提到主语前面。有时整个谓语提前,叫全部倒装;部分谓语提前,叫部分倒装。

Why didn’t you come?
1. 疑问句大部分都是倒装语序(一般疑问句,特殊疑问句,反义疑问句,选择疑问句)
Are you going home for Christmas?
Where can I park the car?
Are we going to meet here or at the airport?
It’s a nice day, isn’t it?
2. there/here/now/then等副词引导的句型
There is an outdoor concert in the park this evening.
Here comes the bus!
Now comes your turn!
Then came the day of his examination.
3. So/neither/nor引导的句型
He’s a teacher and so is his wife.
I don’t eat meat and neither does Tom.
“I don’t like football.” “Nor do I.”
I won’t admit that, nor will I deny that.
4. 状语从句中的倒装语序
a. 让步状语从句中把表语或部分谓语提前
Clever though he was, he couldn’t solve that math problem.
Strange as it may seem, the tallest boy is the youngest.
Try as he might, he couldn’t open that box.
Search as they would, they could find on one in the woods.
b. If引导的条件状语从句
Weren’t it for their assistance, we wouldn’t be able to do so well.
Had we got there earlier, we would have caught that train.
Were I you, I wouldn’t do that.
5. 某些副词或状语引导的倒装句(常出现在书面语中, 日常口语中较少)
a. 某些有否定意思的副词,若放在句首,句子常用倒装语序。如:never, never before, seldom, little, nowhere, scarcely, hardly, only then, not only, not once, rarely etc.
Never would he know what she had suffered.
Seldom have I seen such brutality.
Not once has he failed to fulfill his task.
Little does he care whether we live or die.
Not only did he work faster, he worked better also.
b. 某些副词置于句首,如:often, well, bitterly, gladly, brightly etc.
Often would she cry when alone.
Gladly would I give my life to save that child!
Brightly shone the moon that night.
6. 一些短语(特别是介词短语)移到句首时也可能引导倒装语序。如:on no account, under no circumstance, in no circumstance, in vain, only in this way, not until yesterday, at no point etc.
Under no circumstance could we agree to such a principle.
In vain did he try to open the locked door.
Only in this way can our honor be saved!
At no point south of the river did the enemy advance more than a mile.
7. 谓语前移的情况
a. 有些句子没有宾语而主语又比较长,可把状语提前,而把主语放到谓语后面去。
Before him lay miles of undulating moorland.
After the banquet came a firework display in the garden.
On the table stood two glasses and an empty brandy bottle.
On every side stretched fields of green wheat.
b. 为使描绘显得生动,有些与介词同行的副词可以移到句首,而把谓语放到主语后面去。
